Monika F. Kuhnau, AIA
Monika Kuhnau was born and raised in Aberdeen and earned her Associate’s degree from Grays Harbor College before continuing her architectural education at the University of Idaho. She joined Harbor Architects in 2012 and became the firm’s owner in 2023. Licensed in Washington since 2021, she has built a diverse portfolio of residential, commercial, and civic projects throughout the region.
As Principal, Monika leads projects from early visioning through construction closeout. She is known for her intuitive design sense, strong communication, and steady project leadership. Her responsibilities include managing teams of consultants and engineers, guiding stakeholder engagement, and navigating permitting processes at local and state levels. Monika’s work reflects a deep commitment to sustainable, community-centered design that balances functionality, flexibility, and long-term value. Rooted in the Grays Harbor area, Monika actively contributes to local civic and cultural life. She has served on the Aberdeen Planning Commission since 2014, where she brings design insight to long-range community development efforts. She is also deeply involved in regional theater—applying her architectural eye to scenic design and her project coordination skills to backstage roles at the Driftwood Players and Grays Harbor College’s Bishop Center.
Monika joined the Aberdeen Rotary Club in 2021 and was elected to serve as President for the 2025–2026 term. Her leadership reflects a long-standing commitment to building strong, creative, and connected communities—both through architecture and service.
