AUTOMOTIVE/WELDING TECHNOLOGY BUILDINGGRAYS HARBOR COLLEGEABERDEEN, WASHINGTON
The Vocational Education Building houses the welding, automotive technology, yacht finish carpentry and general carpentry programs, as well as the maintenance program for Grays Harbor College.  Originally constructed in 1971, the existing building no longer offered sufficient space for the growing vocational programs offered by the College.  Potential new programs could not be offered due to lack of physical space.  In addition, the 32-year-old building faced serious deficiencies with safety and health of program participants and with code compliance.
Harbor Architects LLC assisted the College with the Capital Request and the Predesign Study.  During the Predesign process, it was determined that a new 16,350 SF building would be constructed adjacent to the existing 1800 Building in order to take advantage of the proximity of the Diesel mechanics program.  The existing 700 Building would then be renovated to expand other programs into the now vacated automotive and welding spaces.  Conceptual plans were updated and a proposed site and campus plan was added.  Room data sheets and space comparisons helped to fine tune the potential programming of the proposed improvements.
Harbor Architects LLC teamed with SRG Partnership for the design and construction phase.  This facility has been operating on campus since September of 2007.
